[...] Benefits of Musical Training (Van) I’ve been playing Guitar for over 30 yrs and until recently, had no about idea of all the great benefits we get from being Musicians. Compared to a Passive form of relaxation, like watching TV or a movie, playing an instrument is 4 times as effective! One half hour practice session, is equal to 2 full hours of vegetation. Researchers say that when you play a piece of music from memory, there is almost no activity in the Frontal Lobe of your brain. This effect is very similar to Meditation. Students that study Band in high school have a lower incidence of substance abuse in later life. Students that change schools frequently, find that Music Lessons are a much needed source of stability! For kids, college admission officers say that when they see that a student is a trained musician, it shows; Creativity, Teamwork and an Ability to work within set guidelines (Discipline). Music Lessons build self-confidence, problem solving and communication skills. Find out more about the benefits of Musical Training: http://gorehound1313.wordpress.com/beginner-tips-1/benefits-of-learning-to-play-an-instrument/ For Private instruction on Guitar, Banjo, Dobro, Mandolin, or Bass Guitar, email: roots.gtr@gmail.com Gorehound Sound FAQs: http://gorehound1313.wordpress.com/about/gorehound-sound-production-faqs/ [...]

great advice! i would say many times (at and after intermediate level) we learn more from drummers & bass players... also i think personally some of the best advice i've heard is "if you can play it slow, you'll be able to play it fast"; meaning, pace yourself!! learn it slow and error-free first!

cheers,
greg
